When we dispose of old prescriptions or even over-the-counter medications by flushing them in the toilet or tossing them in the garbage, we are contributing to dangerous consequences.
Medications – from antibiotics to hormone-replacement pills – have turned up in local brooks, streams, rivers and even the ocean as a result of improper disposal.
And medications tossed in the garbage can end up in the hands of children, or ingested by animals.
So, in an effort to help people to do it right, local police departments in cooperation with state and federal agencies, hold period “Take Back” days when you can hand them your medications, no questions asked.
