AARP will sponsor a Safe Driving Course at the East Hampton Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. The Seniior Center is located at 105 Main St. next to the library.

Senior drivers, age 60 and up, will learn about how to extend their safe driving abilities. Participants will be rewarded with a certificate that may reduce their auto insurance.

AARP-trained instructors will conduct this 4-hour course.

You may like to know that many farmers markets now accept SNAP vouchers.

It requires a commitment of only one hour of your time, starting around 11:30 a.m., when the meals are delivered to the Senior Center at 105 Main St. and then sorted for each volunteer’s route.  You must also have reliable transportation.

The East Hampton Senior Center presents a Holiday Trip to Springfield Symphony Hall to enjoy the Vienna Boys Choir .

More seats have become available for this performance on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.

The Coach Bus will leave from the East Hampton Stop & Shop/Bank of America parking lot at 10 a.m. and return at about 5 p.m.

This world-famous choir has been performing for more than 500 years.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind holiday program featuring classic and contemporary Christmas favorites.

Before the show, you will enjoy a wonderful lunch at Chez Josef. The menu includes a choice of: roast center loin pork or stuffed filet of sole served with salad, potatoes and fresh vegetables, desserts and coffee.

It’s that time of year again – time for a flu shot

Is there a senior in your life? Please pass this on… The East Hampton Senior Center is hosting a flu shot clinic, sponsored by the Town of East Hampton’s Senior Center and Middlesex Hospital Homecare. The flu clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the East Hampton Senior Center.

The flu clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the East Hampton Senior Center.

No advance registration is required. Shots will be administered on a first come, first served basis. If you have a senior citizen in your life, however, you might want to share this information now and find out if he or she needs transportation.

The vaccinations will be administered by Middlesex Hospital Homecare personnel.

East Hampton Senior Citizens kicked up their heels!

East Hampton seniors were entertained by an upbeat five-piece band, Back Porch Swingers, last week.  The entertainment began after the monthly Senior Center Meeting.

Old time favorites got several seniors out on the dance floor to show some of their moves. It was a great time.

Transportation applications are available at the East Hampton Senior Center. Please allow two weeks for the application to be processed prior to scheduling a ride.

If you need a ride to the doctor, grocery shopping, hairdresser or barber, or activities at the senior center, please call the MAT Transit Authority in Middletown at 860-347-3313, 48 hours in advance, to reserve your seat. Cost per ride is $1.50.

Sensational Creations (previously known as Senior Creations) –  has moved to a different day, Mondays at 1 p.m. If you like to ‘craft,’ join us. Most items are made for our annual craft sale where all proceeds go back into the crafting program. All ideas are welcome!

Creative Sewing/Knitting Circle – Fridays at 11 a.m. Bring your sewing, knitting or crocheting and join in a relaxing time with others.

Exercise with Cindy- Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. with Cindy. (Fridays at 10 a.m. with the video.)  The instructor cost is $20 a month or $3 per class. New participants please contact the Senior Center to sign-up at 860-267-4426. We do invite you to attend a class or two (for a fee), to try it out.

Exercise/Gym room – All seniors are welcome, free of charge, to take advantage of our gym and its equipment. We have 2 treadmills and 2 stationary bikes.

Bears for Cancer Patients- Sojourn Bears are created by our Seniors for people receiving cancer treatments. The bear creation circle is on Wednesdays at 10 a.m.

Bingo – Every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.

Bell-tones (Hand-chimes & Singers) -Wednesdays, 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. The group welcomes new participants. The only requirement is the love of music. Stop in and see what we are all about.

Tap Dancing – Thursdays, 11:15 a.m. to noon.

Setback (card game) -Thursdays, 12:45 – 3 p.m. Partners are established once we know how many players we have. Numbers are drawn.

Spring Fling – Saturday, April 28 at the Senior Center, beginning at 1 p.m. Enjoy a day with the East Hampton High School Interact Club. It will be a day of song, dance and fun. Sign up now for the 2012 East Hampton Wii Bowling Tournament

Want to be a part of the 2012 Wii Bowling Tournament hosted by the East Hampton Senior Center? If so, the time to sign up for a team is now!

On Tuesday, March 27, the East Hampton Senior Center will hold its 4th annual Wii Bowling Tournament.

[For those new to Wii bowling, this is a virtual-bowling game that uses a computerized remote control device and is played as if in a real bowling alley. Click here for more info and see video below. ]

Teams will compete in play-offs while their friends, family and fellow seniors root them on.

All seniors, 60 and older, are welcome to take part in the Wii Bowling Leagues.

There is a team sign-up sheet on the Senior Center Activity board.

Leagues can hone their game during the month of March for the upcoming Tournament.

The East Hampton Senior Center is located at 105 Main St. in the same building as the East Hampton Library.

Cromwell Shopping – Wednesday, March 7, leaving new parking lot at 12:20 p.m. A $3 transportation donation is requested.

Commission on Aging meeting - Thursday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at Senior Center. All are welcome to attend.

Mystery Trip and Lunch at 99 House – Wednesday, March 14, leaving new parking lot at 9:45 a.m. There is a $5 fee for an exhibit, and a $3 transportation donation is requested. Pay for your own lunch at 99 House. Please call the center to register in advance, ASAP, at 860-267-4426.

Sweet 16 Basketball Brackets & Potluck – Starting Wed. March 21 at 9:30 a.m., and on Thurs. March 22 at 11:30 a.m., and Wed. March 28 at 11:30 a.m. and ending Friday March 30 at 4:30 p.m. with a potluck bracket dinner. You don’t need to be a basketball lover to join in the fun.

Cheney Tech Culinary Lunch – Thursday, March 22, leaving new parking lot at 11:15 a.m. There is an $11 fee for lunch and a $3 transportation donation is requested. Please call ahead at 860-267-4426 to sign up.

East Hampton Senior Center – Christmas Tree Shop, Festival of Trees, and a culinary experience

The East Hampton CT Senior Center is hosting a trip to the Wadsworth Atheneum's annual Festival of Trees & Traditions in Hartford, CT on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. Leaving new Senior Center parking lot at 9:15 a.m. Admission for the event is $10. A $3 transportation donation is asked. Lunch on you at the USS Chowder Pot. Payment due at sign-up at the Senior Center's temporary home at the Congregational Church, 59 Main St., East Hampton CT.

Senior Center activities have been temporary moved to East Hampton’s Congregational Church, 59 Main Street while renovations at the center are underway. Hours are now 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday through Friday for the next few months. We can still be reached at 860-267-4426.

PLEASE NOTE: Thanksgiving Holiday, Nov. 24 – 25, the Senior Center will be closed.

Appointments will be made for those over 60 years of age and/or disabled.

East Hampton Senior Center spreads some cheer-or-treat

A few East Hampton senior citizens and staff didn’t let Storm Albert dampen their Halloween fun.

They decided to spread some “trick or cheer” at the East Hampton Town Hall town and for others that saw them parading around.

And just a reminder that the East Hampton Senior Center’s temporary home at the Congregational Church at 59 Main St. is open 10 a.m.-.2 p.m. for seniors who need to get out of the cold and enjoy a cup of hot coffee and some good company.
