Fuel Assistance Offered and Volunteers Needed

The East Hampton Senior Center would like people 60 and older, and/or disabled, to know that they may qualify for help paying for fuel and electric bill this winter through the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program. The center, located at 105 Main Street, is offering appointments for those in need who want to know if they qualify. The program which began this month is for the 2014-2015 heating season. East Hampton Senior Center News Available Online

The East Hampton Senior Center is now on line and current events, trips, lunch menus and more can be viewed by clicking on the senior center link at www.easthamptonct.gov. The center itself is located at 105 Main Street and can be reached at (860) 267-4426.

The center offers a wide variety of services including transportation applications, which offer seniors rides to doctors, grocery stores, hairdressers or activities at the center. Applications take two weeks to process before rides are available and are coordinated through the MAT Transit Authority in Middletown. The transit authority can be reached at (860) 347-3313. Riders should be advised that 48 hours notice prior to transportation is necessary and cost per ride is $2. Weekly shopping schedules through dial-a-ride include trips to Tri-Town Plaza in Portland, every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., and East Hampton Stop and Shop every Friday at 10 a.m. … Continue Reading

AARP will sponsor a Safe Driving Course at the East Hampton Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013. The Seniior Center is located at 105 Main St. next to the library.

Senior drivers, age 60 and up, will learn about how to extend their safe driving abilities. Participants will be rewarded with a certificate that may reduce their auto insurance.

AARP-trained instructors will conduct this 4-hour course.

Senior Citizens, do you need a little extra help to buy food every month, and you are not sure if you qualify for the state SNAP/Food Stamps assistance program? (SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.)

You may like to know that many farmers markets now accept SNAP vouchers.

SNAP Outreach Specialists will be at the Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 17 and Thursday, June 20 to explain the program.

It requires a commitment of only one hour of your time, starting around 11:30 a.m., when the meals are delivered to the Senior Center at 105 Main St. and then sorted for each volunteer’s route.  You must also have reliable transportation.

The Coach Bus will leave from the East Hampton Stop & Shop/Bank of America parking lot at 10 a.m. and return at about 5 p.m.

This world-famous choir has been performing for more than 500 years.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind holiday program featuring classic and contemporary Christmas favorites.

Before the show, you will enjoy a wonderful lunch at Chez Josef. The menu includes a choice of: roast center loin pork or stuffed filet of sole served with salad, potatoes and fresh vegetables, desserts and coffee.

It’s that time of year again – time for a flu shot

Is there a senior in your life? Please pass this on… The East Hampton Senior Center is hosting a flu shot clinic, sponsored by the Town of East Hampton’s Senior Center and Middlesex Hospital Homecare. The flu clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the East Hampton Senior Center.

The flu clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at the East Hampton Senior Center.

No advance registration is required. Shots will be administered on a first come, first served basis. If you have a senior citizen in your life, however, you might want to share this information now and find out if he or she needs transportation.

The vaccinations will be administered by Middlesex Hospital Homecare personnel.

East Hampton Senior Citizens kicked up their heels!

East Hampton seniors were entertained by an upbeat five-piece band, Back Porch Swingers, last week.  The entertainment began after the monthly Senior Center Meeting.

Old time favorites got several seniors out on the dance floor to show some of their moves. It was a great time.
