Food desperately needed at local food bank

Local organizations and food banks have felt the pinch providing food to families in need despite the economy improving, and in East Hampton supplies are running low. The food bank which helps approximately 350 families according to a representative, is no exception, and with the upcoming holiday season the need is even greater. Statewide Voter Registration is Next Tuesday

Election Day is just two weeks away, and Connecticut in an effort to get people registered will hold a statewide voter registration session, Tuesday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In East Hampton eligible residents can register with the town clerk until Oct. 28; on that day people should go to the Registrar of Voters Office located at 20 High Street. 10/10/14: Robert Maheu, 24, of 50 Old West High St., East Hampton and Jessica Catalano, 31, of 28 Old Young St., East Hampton were involved in a two car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 196 and Route 16. Maheu was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Following Too Close. Subcontractor bids for the East Hampton H.S. renovation project are being accepted until the end of Oct. “Downes Construction Company, LLC on behalf of the Town of East Hampton through the East Hampton High School Building Committee and Capital Region Education Council (CREC) will receive sealed bids, in triplicate for the individual bid packages, until 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud at 3:15 p.m.” that afternoon in the high school auditorium, according to the public notice.

Bids should be addressed to Downes Construction Company, LLC, attention construction manager and received in the main office of East Hampton High School, 15 North Maple Street, East Hampton, CT 06424 before the deadline. … Continue Reading

Coffee with the Manager

imagesTown Manager Michael Maniscalo has announced that in an effort to ensure the “Town of East Hampton maintains an open, accessible         government” he will be holding monthly “Coffee with the Manager” events from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each     month.

The first event will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Island Coffee Traders, 37 East High Street. Residents are being invited to join him, and “feel free to bring forward any issue, concern, interest, question or idea they may have.”

The Town of East Hampton is dedicated to its citizens, and through activities like these will be better equipped to meet their needs,” Maniscalo said.


Town Hall Driveway Construction


East Hampton – Town Hall would like residents to be aware that milling and paving will begin on the exit driveway at the town offices beginning Monday, Oct. 6. The portion of the driveway under construction is near the Police Department.

Visitors to Town Hall will need to enter and exit the parking lot via the upper main entrance. Construction is expected to last through Friday, October 10.

Patience during this process is appreciated.

Head Start Preschool Openings Available to Middlesex County Residents

Spots are still available in the Community Renewal Team’s (CRT) Head Start and Preschool Centers. Parents in Middlesex County are being encouraged to consider enrolling their children in these programs even if currently on waiting lists at other area schools. CRT Head Start and Preschool offer a “stimulating educational environment” for children throughout the school year or until space opens on wait lists.

As a special incentive, the first 200 children to enroll in CRT’s Head Start or Preschool Program will receive a free CRT backpack filled with goodies, including pencils, notebook, dental care kit and a children’s book, according to the organization. After 30 days of a child’s attendance, parents will receive a $10 Walmart gift card. For enrollment information on CRT’s Head Start and Preschool Program, call (860) 560-5401 or email ECE@crtct.org.
