After over 25 years as a graphic designer, Hoffman took lessons from one of New England's most accomplished impressionist painters in September 1999 and his work began showing in Hartford County galleries in March of the following year.

The Art Alcove and 66 Main Marketplace will host “April All Arts Night” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5.

Local artists will show their works for the whole month of April.

Refreshments will be served.

The East Hampton High School Music Department invites you to Cabaret Night beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 22 at the high school on North Maple Street.

The Chatham Historical Society will sponsor its 18th annual Antique Appraisal Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 in the community room at the East Hampton Library, which is located at 105 Main St. in East Hampton.

Verbal appraisals will be offered on furniture, glassware, lamps, china, Teddy bears, dolls, quilts, artwork and other treasures. A donation of $5 per item is suggested. Proceeds support the upkeep of the Chatham Historical Society’s museum and one-room schoolhouse on Bevin Boulevard.

The event includes four expert appraisers: Bill Barrows of Thomas Barrows and Sons Ltd. of Portland, CT; Larry Shapiro of Glastonbury Appraisals; Tim Verre of Hiram Griswold Antiques in Wethersfield; and R. J. Weston of Weston’s Antiques in Coventry, CT.

A nationally-touring film fest for and about women comes to Epoch Arts in East Hampton, CT on Saturday, March 16.

LUNAFEST, the nationally touring, fundraising film festival dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers and bringing women together in their communities, will be hosted by Epoch Arts and East Hampton Youth and Family Services on Saturday, March 16 at Epoch Arts in East Hampton, CT.

This unique film festival highlights women as leaders in society – illustrated through nine short films by women filmmakers.

The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.

LUNAFEST, which is created and funded by LUNA®, The Whole Nutrition Bar for Women®, raised more than $556,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and more than $1,000,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations.

The talk will be given by Georg Papp, Sr. OBPA, of Colchester, CT … an author and someone who has been building and researching outhouses for many years.

Papp has been a guest on Boston, Springfield and Hartford television programs, as well as WNPR radio.

With a “mini-privy,” picture board and anecdotes, he talks about building this icon of Americana in a unique, folksy style designed to educate as well as serve its intended function.

The Ambassadors will take on Old Glory, a team of local challengers, in a comedy basketball game hosted by the Rotary Club of East Hampton Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at East Hampton High School. On Thursday, April 4, a team made up of local community leaders, coaches, civic leaders and others will face the Harlem Ambassadors in a match of skill and comedy.

The Harlem Ambassadors travel around the country and entertain audiences with slam dunks, basketball-handling tricks and comedy.

This will be a night of family fun and everyone can get involved.

The Rotary Club of East Hampton has invited the Ambassadors to come and deliver a positive message about staying in school and saying NO to drugs and alcohol.

Plan to bring your friends and family on April 4 at 7 p.m. at the East Hampton High School.
