CL&P’s Proposed Rate Hike

September 2, 2014 Areawide, Feature No Comments

connecticut-light-and-power-logo-cl-p1State Representative Gregory Haddad (D-Mansfield) expressed his strong opposition to the substantial rate hikes recently proposed by Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P). Haddad called on the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to deny the request to raise rates for Connecticut customers of CL&P. “This proposed $232 million electric rate hike will financially hurt all those individuals and businesses who rely on CL&P and could reduce energy-saving initiatives in the state” Haddad said. The state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) accepts public comment and scheduled three public hearings on CL&P’s request. Rep. Haddad said, “I encourage everyone to write PURA (PURA.ExecutiveSecretary@ct.gov) and the Office of Consumer Counsel (occ.info@ct.gov) to express their opposition.” “CL&P is looking to hike the fixed portion of a consumer’s bill which is not the way to go, especially when people are trying to save electricity to help the environment and their pocketbooks,” Rep. Haddad said. “There are a large number of CL&P customers in my district that are going to be hit very hard by this unprecedented and indefensible rate increase if it were to be approved.”
