East Hampton Police announced today (Aug. 8) that a search that began as a missing person investigation for a new mother, 30-year-old Jini Barnum, is now a criminal investigation, which means they suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Barnum was reported missing the evening of Saturday, July 28.

Police say they are continuing to pursue leads, but do not say if there is any evidence leading them to suspect Barnum is the victim of a criminal act.

They do say that since Barnum left her home after a disagreement with her boyfriend – leaving behind her then 6-week-old infant – she has not contacted any of her family or friends.

Police describe Barnum as a white female who wears glasses, is approximately 5’2” tall, weighs 160 lbs and has blonde/red hair, as well as numerous tattoos and piercings.

Police say she was last seen wearing jeans and a dark-colored T-shirt and that her hair was pulled back into a ponytail.

Police are asking anyone who has seen Barnum, or has any information as to her whereabouts or that might help the investigation, to please immediately call the East Hampton Police Department at 860-267-9922.
