If you want to enter your “showboat” (float) in this year’s Captain Grizzy Showboat Parade, time is running out.

This fun parade of decorated boats that cruises the perimeter of Lake Pocotopaug in East Hampton, CT is sponsored by the Friends of Lake Pocotopaug.

Trophies and prizes are awarded in several categories – including one just for children.

The deadline to register is this Saturday, Aug. 4 (registration is free).

This year, the parade’s eighth, the event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 (rain date is Sunday, Aug. 12).

The parade traditionally has been accompanied by tents set up in the park area where you can meet representatives from local organizations, and there’s food for sale from local vendors (or bring your own picnic).

You can download your registration form at the Friends of Lake Pocotopaug site at http://www.ehflp.org and drop it off at Westshore Marina or send an email to Kamey Peterson via Kamey@att.net

The prizes are:

$200 for Best in Show in 3 categories – Boats, Barges, Children’s floats.

And four “Good Showing” prizes of $100 Carmen Anthony’s Gift Certificates.

$10,000 raffle!

Also tied to the parade is the annual Friends of Lake Pocotopaug raffle, with BIG prizes: first prize is $10,000, second prize is $1,500, third prize is a $1,000 gift certificate to Shop and Shop.

The drawing will be held on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. at Angelico’s Lake House (following the boat parade).

Tickets, which are $20 each, are available from any FLP member, or at Angelico’s Lake House, Governor’s Tavern, Paul and Sandy’s Too and Loco Perro. (Members also may be selling tickets at the Town Hall parking lot this weekend).
