New CT laws in effect Oct. 1 increase protection of domestic violence victims, exploited children, seniors and whistleblowers

Senate Bill 153 takes effect Oct. 1, 2010 - It protects 16- and 17-year-olds forced into prostitution from prosecution and toughens penalties against those who exploit them. Previously, prostitution had been a crime regardless of the alleged offender’s age.

Another law taking effect Oct. 1 excludes the disclosure of name, address, telephone number or e-mail address of anyone who is a member of, or enrolled in a program at a senior center that a public agency administers or sponsors.

Would-be burglar interrupted during series of break-ins in East Hampton

A witness identified a vehicle that might be related to the interrupted break-in, an early 2000 vintage Mercury Marquis or Ford Crown Victoria sedan.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Robert Holzberg denied the motion to invalidate the subpoena and so O’Keefe, Reimondo, Atty. Rosenblatt, and attorneys David S. Monastersky and Shel Myers, who were reportedly hired by the town’s insurance carrier, met in chambers today at 1 p.m.

Residents and members of the news media packed the Town Hall meeting room at the Aug. 18 Special Town Council Meeting whic resulted in a move to East Haddam High School, and postponing a vote on the language of an ordinance that would eliminate the police chief

If the group, which has been a very visible and vocal opponent to the Town Council’s actions – beginning with the removal of Police Chief Matthew Reimondo in June – is successful, this would mean the amended ordinance (under Chapter 109) would be put to a Town Meeting vote.

Lake resident Raymond Backus, who is renting a cottage in the area, heard the cries for help and responded with his personal water-craft, an 18-foot Sunbird Bow-Rider, to assist the East Haddam Fire Department in the search.
