IRS has big check for first-time home-buyers

If you haven’t yet filed your 2008 returns but are buying a home soon, you can request a six-month extension to October 15, 2009 – instead of waiting until next year to claim the credit on your 2009 tax return.

If you are buying a home in the near future and have already filed your 2008 tax return, you can file an amended tax return.

$1 billion for police jobs

Approximately $1 billion is available nationally. Law enforcement agencies must apply for the competitive grants, which are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Departments that receive the grants must agree to retain and pay for those jobs at least one year after the federal support ends.
